January 2021.

31st December

Very frosty on the common with a bit of snow too plus freezing fog. Very pretty but so cold.

 January 1st

Well, what will this year bring? Another more powerful wave of Cronia virus-going around, a lock down-stay at home again on the cards-(I am mostly at home anyway) lots of shops, pubs, and restaurants going to close yet again? What a start to the new year- things can only get better.

On yesterday's walk, Summer and I spotted this big deep hole just inside the park area. I think it's from when the workmen put in some new gas pipes last year. Looks like to me they have disturbed a rabbit burrow/waren very deep as the pictures show. Need to find someone to tell from the council over the next few days.

2nd

Snow fell today big flakes and for a while, it settled, so clean and white every time. If it had carried on snowing like it was we would have had a lot but it stopped- shame.

Andrew was in the shed when Snowy came in crying. He picked him up and he spat at him as he was in pain. Andrew looked to see what he had done and it looked like he had a cut or stab wound near his tail. He looked quite shocked too, we thought the best thing to do was get his owner Katie from next door. She came round and tried to look at his injury but he too spat and tried to claw her. Whatever had happened to him was extremely painful, poor Snowey. She decided that the best place would be to stay in the shed where it's quiet. Andrew said he would tell her when Snowey left so she could expect him home.

Snowy still here at night time but I think it will be gone by morning, as rain is coming. He does not like rain at all.

New replacement street lights going in on the 4th so no parking in the street from tomorrow. Paul managed to find a space close by.

3rd

A lot of the snow has gone but still a bit here and there. Summer and I did not go on the common as rain and sleet coming down fast, instead going down Sincil Bank. She does this at times when it's wet or very windy. Her walk her choice.

4th

Snowy seems a lot better and not in as much pain now. He will not let anyone touch his back, so still very sore for him.

The lockdown was announced at 8pm. but no one was surprised. Still felt like a kick in the teeth though. Another how many more weeks this time?

Told a park attendant about the hole inside the park. He had not seen it at all. Straight away he put tape around it so no one falls in it.

Very cold on the common face and hands feels like ice. (I have RAYNAUDS which is extremely cold fingers and toes, sometimes legs and arms caused by bad circulation) rest of me ok. I wear 2 pairs of gloves but still, my hands are mostly cold.

5th

Had to go into town as the storage boxes Paul got me as a present were damaged. We were only gone for an hour so I was pleased so was Summer too. Bit risky now with all this new virus around, play safe till we all get the vaccine.

Summer still is a bit anxious when left, we were not too long so good for her as well. Got the boxes swapped over so alls good. They are for my wool and patterns so it will make it a lot easier to find the patterns and wool types.

6th

The hole in the park has bean fixed which must be a record for the Council they usually take ages to fix things.

Very cold again -2c at 8.30 and did not warm up much either. Most days just lately have bean low temperatures

B12 injection 11.30, and a routine blood test. The B12 hurt a lot and for the rest of day.

Went round to Katies as we had not seen Snowy for 2 days and after his injury, we just wanted to make sure he was alright. He was fast asleep on their sofa with his cat sister. When he heard me he popped up a sleepy head and looked as to say what are you doing at my door. Andrew and I were very pleased he was getting better.

Katie said she looked at his back as much as he would let her and did not think he needed to go to the vets, She was right as he has improved.

7th

The new street light job is going well, I think it will be done in less than a week as they first thought. So that will be good for the cars as not much extra parking around here.

Picture of my cyclamen plant as it looks so pretty. My sister in law and brother bought it for me a few years ago.

8th

Made my Brother David and Sister inlaw Bev, a Christmas cake, as they seemed a bit disappointed at Christmas as they did not get a homemade one. A new year cake this time. All went well and smells lovely no alcohol this time.

Pictures of cakes I made last year for us and Wayne.

Our cake.
Small one for Wayne and Kayleigh. Wayne and Kayleigh's cake when will they will get it ???

9th

I have bean making these little dolls cribs like I made a few years ago. They are not too hard to make, that is when my fingers do, what they are supposed to do. I might sell them as most little girls I know now have bean given one as a present over the past few years.

I have a lot more pain than usual, mostly in my legs, but having a lot in my arms. The pain is the nagging sort that does not go. I have taken extra tablets but these upset my stomach and then I get pain there. As usual with RSD it wins.

10th

Going to make some mince pies as they all gone now, a few people would be pleased with that, but we have them throughout the year. Cheating a bit as frozen pastry same as Christmas ones it's easier and less messy for me. Turned out well and tasty too.

14th

Another snowfall-- that's 2 lots this year already- a lot more fell this time.

Our car.

Wayne has got a lot more snow in Halifax and the buses have stopped running too- good job they are both working from home.

Little Snowey does not like the snow at all. He had bean asleep in the shed and wanted to go home but did not want to get his feet wet. I said you will have to make a run for it. He cried once, then ran across the lawn to go home next door. Cleaning up downstairs today.

15th

David and Bev's cake done.

Made some small sponge cake chocolate ones very nice too. Iced the cake.  Bit of a rest for rest of day bit more knitting making another baby basket like the other 2.

Paul cooked tea, chicken and veg. I enjoyed it too. Better too because I did not do it. Washed and dried up.

Results of the blood test I had. B12 too high now. So 12 weeks in between injections instead of 8. Another blood test in September. I still need the injections as I have PERNICIOUS  ANEMIA. When they were stopped a few years ago my B12 levels went dangerous low.

I have had the injections now for at least 10years, maybe a lot longer.

16th

Most of the snow has now gone the temperature has risen from  -2c to 5c. Crazy weather going on.

The river is very high and seeping through the cracks in places. During the summer the river banks had a lot of work done to prevent flooding again like it has in previous years. Too soon to tell if this has worked properly yet, but looks like it has helped this time. We are not at risk but the football ground building are- plus the houses along Sincil Bank.

18th

Face to face physio with Vinnie today. Paul took me in the car and I will walk back after having a look in town.

The appointment went well and Vinnie was mostly pleased with my wrist and shoulder. I have bean given some more exercises to strengthen my shoulder. I only need to go back if anything gets worse or any changes. A year since breaking my wrist - this has taken much longer than I thought it would. I had written in a previous blog that the Doctor said it would be 6 months be for any major improvement. I laughed at him, he was right. My wrist is still not 100% but how much of that is the RSD input?

22nd

Very cold on the common wind straight from Siberia or that how it feels.

Looking after Jamie-Lee today as Jay-Jay is at Derby having his arm looked at. ( He put it through the glass of the passage door. Did a lot of damage to arteries and tendons cut plus a nasty gash to his arm)

Jamie and I played with the little dolls and also a big doll that she has. She decided that we needed to go for a walk. So a walk down Sincil Bank with Summer and big doll in the pushchair. So cold the wind feels like its cuts your face. we played connect 4 when we got back.

Soon Lindsay was back and after a drink and update on Jay-Jay, she was taken home by Paul. Jay is doing well still not perfect but getting better.

Nighttime another lot of hellish pain all over but legs the worst again.

Picture of my first snowdrop to come up. I have 2 different types and this one is always the first to poke its little head up. I love snowdrops very delicate yet strong as well to withstand the winter.

25th

Met 2 people I used to run with at Lincoln City Joggers while walking to the common. This was the first club I joined around 34 years ago. Good to see they are ok and doing well, one of them still runs but the other now walks. They were going for a long walk on the common.

Very frosty on here so better for walking as everywhere frozen no big puddles for Summer to go in and get mucky.

Cleaned up downstairs. Started knitting a set of clothes for 2 tiny 4" baby dolls. To go in the basket I finished on the 9th of this month. Not easy at the moment as my hands not too good so had to leave them for a while. The wool is 3/4ply and the size of the needles UK14/2mm. Like knitting with wire and cotton. I will get them done though this will not beat me yet.

Eyes looking at you- or an ice bra.

26th

Finished off the doll set I started a few weeks ago for the doll of Jamie-Lees that states here. Pleased with this set knitted in DK wool. I had to alter the pattern a bit as the doll is a bit smaller.

28th

Dentist today so a chance to get a bit of shopping in town. Waited outside the dentist, someone came out told them who I was, then another 20min wait in the rain. They called me in then said I had got the day wrong. WHY wait 20mins to tell me this ??? Not sure if it's them or me that has it wrong as it was a phone call to tell me. Anyway I have another appointment on 9th February. Got what I wanted in town so not a wasted trip.

My pain has calmed down a bit. this always gets me worried, as what is the RSD planning. Nice to have a few less pain-filled days. This means fewer extra tablets so less stomach problems. The days before were like Merry Go-Ride of HELL with no chance of getting off.

29th

Picked up the twin dolls knitting again- not going too bad this time hands a bit better.

The Starship (SN9) project that Andrew and I have bean watching did not take off due to fight regulation or something like that. We both thought well that it no coverage today, we were wrong as they decided to move the next Starship (SN10) into place. This took a long time, especially as it only moved a few miles an hour, a lot slower than normal for a rocket. Was so amazing to watch the dining room TV had never bean on so long in one day. This was on in the background as I got on with other things.

SN 10 being moved. This is when it went behind the Starship Sn9

Men hooking up the hoist to the crane to move SN10 into place
Being lifted up.

Just getting it on the platform.
In place at last- nearly dark.

Took this picture of the river from the bottom of the garden, as you can see very high now. This is not really a river at all just a drain that has expanded a bit over the years.

Very high at the moment.

30th

Cleaning up again downstairs.

Lindsay and Jamie-Lee came round late afternoon and stayed for tea. Mexican I had chips and chicken strips, so did Jamie-Lee the other had wraps or burritos meals. This was very nice and we all enjoyed the meal. Gave Jamie-Lee her gloves I knitted her should have bean for Christmas but could not get any pink press studs/poppers. I ended up using metal ones as nowhere was open to get pink ones. They look good and Jamie-Lee was pleased with them. Also the knitted doll set. (26th)

Very frosty when I went to bed and cold wind as well. Going to be cold on the common tomorrow.

Well, another month of uncertainty and lock-in. There will be a day soon we can all go about our lives like we used to. that's if we can remember how too.

All the very best to you all

Love Gill.
